Author: Harry Kingaby I own 7 guitars, all pro quality, of different types; solid body, archtop, slimline etc... The ebg808l 2008 model is the best guitar I have ever owned. Period. I am only sorry that over 30 years of playing I have not spent more time perfecting my accoustic skills!
In other reviews I read that the cedar top and the walnut back are inferiour to the older ones which had spruce and blackwood respectively.
Well, I am not comparing this with the older models but taking it on its own merits. Personally I think the cedar top (the most important piece of wood in any acoustic instrument) gives the instrument its own unique sound. It is rich, full of overtones, deep with a beautiful top end.
I can see myself taking leads with this guitar which I previously wouldn't have considered doing unless I was playing Django's music.
I don't think I will ever need to buy another guitar. (but I must make sure the wife doesn't see that sentence!)

Author: Jan Arts I have been building guitars for several years and tried this one in a local shop attracted by the cedar top. I was very impressed by the balanced tone, good separation and plenty of volume. The cedar top does an excellent job. Great fingerpicking instrument, the neck feels easy to play. The walnut and cedar make a nice combination which is not as that common. The finish is thin but I see it as a bonus from acoustic point of view. The sound stands out above that of about any other guitar in this price range. I didn't try the pickup, but overall, I rate this guitar as excellent.
